Training is in full swing as the Conestoga Rugby Football Club is in the third week of practices for the upcoming 2017 Spring Season.  Players on all teams have been shaking off the rust in the cold February weather.

The U19 Boys have been coming prepared and focused for every session ready to put forth the work needed to repeat as State Champions.  Assistant Coach Keith McLean has been working the Forward Pack hard, while Assistant Coach Puddin Head is trying to find cohesiveness between returning and new Backs.  When responding to questions, Head Coach Alex Johnson said, “The players are extremely focused on their goal.  Definitely itching to start full contact.”

The U19 Girls are leaving 2016 in the past.  With a number of new players, the Girls are looking to make a statement this upcoming season.  When asked about the new players, Head Coach Tyler Miller responded, “The new players have helped elevate the intensity with their willingness to learn, and to jump right into the game.”  Coach Miller added, “We’re miles ahead of where we were this time last year.”

There is a sense of excitement around The U15 Team this year.  The U15 Boys have a good core of returning players with new found speed on the outside.  “The Boys are working well together.  We have a great group of returning players, along with fresh new talent.  I am very excited to see where this season goes,” said Head Coach Pat Humbert.  Coach Humbert went on to say, “The last practice ended with a well-executed touch scrimmage incorporating the entire team on both sides of the ball.”

The U13 Team has unprecedented depth this year with over 25 players on the roster.  Returning players are encouraging and helping the new players learn the foreign concepts of the sport.  “Trainings have been long and hard, but the Boys are accepting the challenge and showing true character,” replied Head Coach Ryan McLean when asked how practices were going thus far.  Coach McLean finished by saying, “The returning players have shown great leadership and have been making my job much easier.”

Be sure to check for updates every couple of weeks as the Conestoga Rugby Football Club approach their Spring games and look to make more history in 2017.
